Anthony Hobrooke was born in 1969 and raised in NYC. Anthony traveled the world devoting himself to working with refugees in Bosnia and South East Asia. His travels led him into the world of stone as he would carve small objects while moving from place to place. His earliest works explored stone from various parts of the world to create microsculptures--works ranging from one to three inches. Details such as eyes and claws on animals reveal themselves with close inspection. The size was a function of his travel--large stones were simply too heavy and cumbersome when traveling. His recent works are as large as 3 feet in height using marble from Colorado, Vermont and New York.
